Important information for your journey to Botswana

We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!

This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.

Travel Checklist

One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:

  • Valid passport for 6 months after return
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (if you have been in an affected country in South America or Africa within the past 2 years)
  • A printed copy of your flight itinerary
  • Travel insurance
  • Proof of Sufficient Funds (printed bank statement or a screenshot of your bank balance)
  • Country Director, Judith Gounaris' phone number (WhatsApp +27 79 526 2746) and other Emergency phone numbers added to your cell phone and written down on a piece of paper in case your battery dies.
  • Minors will also need a certified copy of their birth certificate in English, a parental consent letter signed by both parents (or one legal guardian), copies of parent's ID, and parent's contact details. All these documents must be certified which means they must be signed by a Public Notary, Solicitor, or the Police. Bring these documents along with the invitation letter and ID of Judith Gounaris sent to via email.

Arriving at the airport

Please make your way to the Immigration Desk where they will stamp your passport.

Once you have cleared immigration, please make your way to the baggage reclaim and collect your bag. Then make your way to the exit which is signposted in English.

Depending on the date and time of your arrival, you will be met by either our trusted
transport provider or a member of the guesthouse staff.

Meeting our staff

You will be met in the arrivals hall and the person picking you up will be holding a sign
with the Projects Abroad logo.

If you stay overnight, you will be taken to the Country Blue Guesthouse and our transport provider will collect you from the guesthouse at 6am the following morning to transfer you to 'Wild at Tuli', where you will begin your project.

On departure, you will be taken back to Polokwane airport or at Country Blue Guesthouse, depending on whether you need to spend the night in Polokwane before your flight. A shuttle vehicle will then be arranged to take you to the airport.

In the extremely rare event that the staff member coming to meet you is late and you do not see anyone holding a Projects Abroad sign at the airport or if you experience any flight delays, please call Judith Gounaris on WhatsApp +27 79 526 2746  and then continue looking for a person holding the Projects Abroad sign. It’s best to stay at the airport in the arrivals hall until we have met you.
