We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!
This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.
Travel Checklist
One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:

- Passport valid for at least 6 months after your return.
- Travel insurance.
- Proof of sufficient funds: printed bank statement or a screenshot of your bank balance.
- Local address in Costa Rica written on a piece of paper and on your phone. Please use the accommodation address that you can find here.
- A printed copy of your flight itinerary.
- ESTA, if you will transit via the United States.
- Jessica Brenes' phone number (+506 8627 3229) and emergency numbers (see below), added in WhatsApp and written down on paper in case your phone battery dies.
- Gunar Campos (driver) +506 8345 3087
Arriving at the airport
Once you have landed in Costa Rica, you will first go through the immigration desk, where they will stamp your passport.
Please have the following documents to hand:
- Your passport.
- Your accommodation information.
- Your complete flight itinerary including return details out of Costa Rica.
Kindly remember that volunteering with Projects Abroad counts as 'tourism' for immigration purposes.
After you finish immigration, you will go to the baggage claim area to wait for your luggage. There aren’t that many carousels, so you’ll easily be able to find yours.
Once you have collected your luggage, walk through customs. They may ask you to open your bags to show the contents. When you finish, follow the 'Exit' signs.
Meeting our staff

You will be met at the airport exit by a member of the Projects Abroad staff or by your host family. To find them, please leave the arrivals area and look to your left-hand side for an A4 sign with the Projects Abroad logo.
From the airport, we will drive you to your accommodation. The drive will take around 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic and where your host family is located.
In the extremely rare event that the staff member coming to meet you is late and you do not see anyone holding a Projects Abroad sign at the airport or if you experience any flight delays, please call the emergency numbers or send a WhatsApp message to:
- Jessica Brenes: +506 8627 3229
- Gunar Campos (driver) +506 8345 3087
