Important information for your journey to Greece

We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!

This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.

Travel Checklist

One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:

  • Valid passport for 6 months after your return
  • Proof of sufficient funds, such as a copy of your current bank statement demonstrating that you have enough funds to cover your stay in Greece. Just as a precaution, it may not be required by the immigration officer.
  • Local address in Greece written down on a piece of paper and in your phone. Your accommodation address can be found here
  • A printed copy of your flight itinerary including proof of exit.
  • Valid Schengen visa if you are NOT a visa-exempt passport holder.
  • Programme Manager, Dennis Lagounaris' number +30 694 430 4197 and emergency numbers (see below) added in WhatsApp and written down on paper in case your mobile battery dies.

Arriving at the airport

Upon arrival in Greece, you will be directed to the immigration desk where you will present your passport and any other required documents. The immigration officer may ask questions regarding your purpose of visit and length of stay. Please remember that volunteering with Projects Abroad counts as tourism for immigration purposes. This is because you will not be paid and therefore do not require a work permit.

Also, for your residential address, please write down the apartment address that your Destination Expert provided a month prior to your departure.

If everything is in order, your passport will be stamped, and you will be allowed to enter Greece for up to 90 days.

Once you have cleared the Immigration desk you can move on to the baggage reclaim area where you wait until your bag arrives, then make your way to the exit.

Meeting our staff

Our staff will meet you at the airport arrivals hall. They will hold a sign saying Projects Abroad.

They will then take you directly to your accommodation by taxi.

In the extremely rare event that the staff member coming to meet you is late and you do not see anyone holding a Projects Abroad sign at the airport or if you experience any flight delays, please call Dennis Lagounaris' number +30 694 430 4197 or contact the local staff through the WhatsApp group you have been added to.
Stay at the airport in the arrivals hall until our staff member finds you.
