Life in Mexico

The prep before departure was great. Thanks Gabriela for all the help and support despite the set backs due to covid.

La Paz is a great place to be. People are very friendly and it is normal here to say hello to people you see while walking. It is good to leave a tip after a meal or after an excursion. That’s usually 10-15%. Meals are cheap and tasty.

If you are joining the project and you are the only volunteer don’t worry as you will easily make friends in the city. There is a lot to learn the first few days if you are doing the diving open water course as well as working with Pablo with the surveys.

But you will learn quickly and have a lot of fun both diving and monitoring the coast with Pablo. Pablo is very knowledgeable and will teach you a lot about conservation. At the weekends there is a lot to explore around here, like Todos Santos and Sierra de la Laguna. Enjoy every day!

The Diving Project

Diving is a great experience. I saw so many beautiful things, sea turtles, sea lions, and shipwrecks. It was great to master a new skill.

I loved doing surveys and learning about the different species that live here. I also learnt a lot about corals and had many interesting conversations about conservation with Pablo.

I loved this trip because you are not just a tourist you are constantly learning new things and helping the planet as well.

Special thanks to Gabriela and Pablo. Thank you so much for a great experience. I loved every day and learnt a lot of new things.

Pablo is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what he does. He is easy to reach and always ready to help.

This is a personal account of one volunteer’s experience on the project and is a snapshot in time. Your experience may be different, as our projects are constantly adapting to local needs and building on accomplishments. Seasonal weather changes can also have a big impact. To find out more about what you can expect from this project we encourage you to speak to one of our friendly staff.
